Gourd-Jus Centerpiece part 2

This is the beginning of my centerpiece...Gourds, leaves and candlesticks... just as I left it last week. As promised, I was planning to complete the design and post it when I returned from Mt. Dora...

Well.........my intentions were good. All the items I had planned to use were set aside...the design was floating around in my head. But my plans were waylaid a little bit...

Scroll down to see what greeted me when I came home on Friday night...

My dining room has be invaded by Hello Alaska!!! "It's temporary...just a couple of days...(insert cute smiles and lots of hugs) We promise."

"Oh, and by the way, we have 2 shows this week and we need to practice. Is there anyway we can do that before Wednesday?" ("love you, Mom. You're the best!")

My son and his band lost their practice space while I was gone. I received a phone call asking if they could store their equipment for a couple of days, until they found a new location. Being the good mom that I am (or is that "sucker"), I agreed...and I also agreed that they could practice in the house while I was out of town. At least I would not have to hear it!

It's been7 days and the equipment is still here. Where are the guys? That nasty piggy (H1N1) has taken hold of 2 of them. The shows this week have been cancelled...so the immediate need to remove the equipment is postponed. HA!!!
(You should see the garage! Speakers, amps, etc. are piled up to the ceiling!!!)

Does anyone want to guess who the drummer is?

"Mom, these drums have a wood base. Being in the garage might warp them." My response..."You do have an empty loft."
Drummer boy said, "But there are so many stairs..."
(As I said...I'm a sucker!)

Oh well.... I guess that I will have to finish this table another time.

Want to come over to dance?
Don't forget your ear plugs....
Jane

Don't forget to visit Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for many more wonderful tablescapes.

"Gourd-Jus Tablescape"....Jane, you're cracking me up, here! Those boys NEED to practice, ya' know.
I feel sorry for them, suffering with this flu. I'm not fully recovered from it yet & its been 2 full weeks. NOT FUN!
I sure hope YOU don't come down with it.

Hi Jane, Just found your blog. I too am the mother of a drummer boy. You know what they say...the band always practises at the drummers house because its too hard to move the drums. My favourite rug was "stolen" ie borrowed, recently to put the precious drum set on top. Goodness knows when I will get it back. But its all fun isn't it and its great that they are so enthusiastic, cheers Katherine

Just think of this as your sacrifice for the arts! You'll be "scaping" or "escaping" soon!

I agree with Martha above. Thanks for coming by today, it is nice to meet you.

This mothering thing never ends does it? If I could get my kids to take all the things that belong to them out of this house...I could have one of those fancy dish rooms!

I have to say that I feared when my daughters were teens that they'd "take a liking" to drums. But they didn't and now they're grown!

Cheers....enjoying my latte and clinking with your misto. Thanks for coming by our blog. Always fun to see a new friendly face. Your gourds are beautiful (is that too forward:). What a great mom to let Drummer Boy (fab name) take over the living room. That's what we have to look forward to. Charisse says, that she wants you to post a Rockin picture of you on the drums! Come again soon. Have a great day. Holly at lifelaughlatte.blogspot.com

This is too funny. I'm married to a musician, and our daughter is a musician so I totally understand. Although neither plays the drums, our office is now home to DH's guitar collection, and our daughter's room is full of overflow saxophones, keyboards and more guitars! I thought that when she went to college I would get to reclaim the room - didn't happen. Thanks for stopping by, glad you have good memories of Salado, it is a neat little town. And I loved your outdoor Wednesday post, what a neat sight! Have a great week. Kathy

Your centerpiece is so warm and welcoming. Oh what fun!! I would love to come to the dance. It's been quite a few years since we've gone daning on a Friday or Saturday night. This brought back some wonderful memories. Jane, thank you so much for being such a faithful follower and for your entry for the give away basket. I wish you all the luck in the world.
hugs ~lynne~

How funny, Jane! :-)

I don't have an excuse about my centerpiece or door or mantle... I just haven't gotten it done. At least you can blame it on the band. ;-)

XO,

Sheila

You asked about my 2 napkin "rule" -- after losing some of my favorite cloth napkins to stains I couldn't remove ... I started using two -- cloth for the lap and paper for the mouth (and to protect the cloth napkins) -- silly, but it works!

And the beat goes on! Musicians - can't live with them but we sure can't live without them -just think of the silence of life without their magic!
