Mom

Today, in the elevator at my mother’s retirement residence, I met several seasoned citizens…70s and above. Some had a joie de vivre; others seemed to be waiting to pass from this earth. Then there is Mom…a spirited 90 year old woman who has little patience for all the “old people” around her. She gardens, has joined the “Friendship Committee” to welcome the newcomers to the residence, she drives to church and to a few of the stores in her neighborhood, she plays Bingo every Thursday and Saturday, and she bakes cookies and breads to share with her fellow residents. Wherever she goes, she spreads JOY. Although she still misses Dad (and after 67 years of marriage who wouldn’t), she reaches out to those who need a cheerful smile or a listening ear. She is a wonderful work of God’s creation! I want to be like her…….

33 YEARS!!!

Today is the 33rd anniversary of the day I joined my life with the man of my dreams! Life with my hubby has been quite an adventure. We have lived in 10 homes, 5 states (some multiple times) and have gone through 12 companies. We've raised 3 wonderful sons...and fed hundreds of their friends! (at least that's what if seems like!!!) And thanks to him I have even adopted Auburn as my favorite football team! War Eagle! Through it all, we've maintained, not only love and respect for each other, but a sense of humor...and an "outside of the box" approach to life. His wise counsel and compassion has guided not only me, but our sons and many of their friends. And his gift of conveying God's word and his passion for truth has had a great impact on the lives of so many people.
Many have asked how hubby and I have stayed happily married for so many years. Although we joke that he's been traveling for more than half our married lives, we maintain that it's totally through the grace of God. All the personality profiles, psychological profiles, and spiritual gift tests we have taken throughout the years have basically said we were incompatible...that marriage would not work. We always counter that God knows best!
Happy Anniversary, Honey! I love you!!!
I look forward to 33 more years...if not more!
