The Gator
On a glorious spring afternoon, my friend and I were sitting by her pool, looking over the languid Florida lake when we noticed a small creature sunning on the lakeshore. It was a young gator! Still new to Florida, my friend had never seen one up close and was quite excited. We ran into the house to get our cameras and quietly headed to the beachfront to capture this little fellow on film. Being the fearless Florida native who has lived near gators all my life, I slowly crept up behind the creature, snapping photos as I closed in. This little fellow seemed to be afraid to move...he just stayed still, posing for our shots.
We continued to close in on our gator and reveling in the thoughts that we could share our photos and story with our traveling husbands and imagining them telling us that we were either brave or foolish to try to capture our gator on film.
Closer and closer we crept with great trepidation, thinking that at any time, the gator would turn and snap at us...that is until we noticed the sun glinting on his eye. It was a FAKE!!!
Did we ever feel foolish!!! But we did have a great story...
Thanks for stopping by. Be sure to visit Barbara Jacksier for more Waterside Wednesday posts... and Susan at Southern Daydreamer for Outdoor Wednesday posts. There are always wonderful photos to see and places to visit!

okay, i would of been soooooo scared!
It is a great story! You got my day off to a very happy start. I hope you are enjoying the last few days of summer.
Love this! I can just picture the kids who put him there hiding behind a sand dune or something and just laughing all the while as they catch person after person!
Hahahaha... well he sure would have fooled me, and I probably never would have gotten close enough to him to see that he's a faux gator!
Funny story!

I am so glad I stopped back by today, this story is just too funny!
Too funny! I have a small metal gator on my porch and folks from Florida always jump when they see him. Several years ago, I got to hold a young one for a photo op. If I can find the photos, perhaps they will appear on a future Waterside Wednesday.
Oh that is such a funny story. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Don't feel silly about the gator sighting...If you were in Florida you had a better chance of seeing a live one up close...or perhaps a big snake or even an Armadillo....Lived there done that!! #1 Reason I moved North to Atlanta...too many snakes and gators...
What a wonderful tabletop vignette for a sports party! And, what a great gator story!
OMG, Sorry I had to delete my first comment..it's a holiday weekend. My fingers do not want to type.
I'm so glad you stopped by! How could you move from those mountains. We go down as often as we can. Lately it's not as often as we hope. It's hard when parents have health issues. Lol..we've been going down since before River Rd in Gatlinburg was paved..I was 4 and it was 1964...oohhh I'm gettin old....
Hope you stop by for another chat soon.

haha!!! I was just going to say...no matter how much of a native I would ever be (I am not, but still...) I would have to have a mega zoom lens feature on my camera!
but then when you showed that shot with his alligator eyes... I was thinking, Ew! something just isnt right about this fella!
haha...still think y'all are brave alligator hunters!
Blessings & Aloha!
