A Day in the Surf

Thanks to The Shabby Chic Cottage for hosting "A Beach Party" and to A Southern Daydreamer for hosting "Outdoor Wednesday". Please visit these two blogs and join in the fun!

Crescent Beach...I am finally back!

After many years of talking about it, my sister and I FINALLY took a long, girls' weekend at the beach.Although most of this trip was designed to meet artists and possible business partners for the

coastal store she is opening in Mt. Dora this fall, we spent copious time on the beach...in the RAIN!

Due to the outer band of Hurricane Bill, the surf was spectacular ...and the surfers were out in droves. Along the pier at St. Augustine Beach, we counted 48 surfers waiting for the perfect wave.

All the little black dots in this photo are surfers with their boards!!! The waves were coming in between 6-10 feet... quite unusual along this coast!

The parade of surf fanatics walking along the shore was definitely a mixed bunch...young men with "6 pack" chests and old men with gray hair and beards, young girls in their bikinis and even a dads with young sons. Their colorful attire and surfboards were the only contrasts on this rainy, gray day. But no matter the weather, everyone was having a wonderful time!

On our last day, we finally saw the sun and headed to the sand for some early morning tanning time. The pelicans were out...flying in their long formations. Sis and I counted 32 brown pelicans in one line, coasting along the air currents. Sandpipers were also tripping along the shallows in search of food. What a wonderful way to end a special weekend!

***Check out the sunset over Lake Harris below...that's the end of our sunny day...

Jane, I could actually make out the surfers in your photo. I love the ocean when it's angry. It reminds me how insignificant my troubles are. I hope you are having wonderful day.

I am so sorry it rained on your beach trip..
We could use some rain..it has been glorious beach weather, though BILL made the ocean here ferocious..no swimming for a few days, but the Bay was fine..

Good to hear that you had a bit of sunshine while you were there. and hope that you and your sister had great success getting the artistsans, business partners, etc that you had hoped to get.

Haha those surfers are a determined group! ...a wee bit like the postman..."through rain or sleet or snow (well, surely not snow!)..."

Love to see the pelicans and sandpipers.

Blessings & Aloha!

still getting around to all the beach parties... hope you get a chance to come by my parties (I thought my post was too long, so decided to break it up into two Beach parties!)

Hello Jane - thank you for sharing those spectacular photos of the rainy surf! I have such a respect for the ocean, and I'm sure those surfers did too! Love the waves.

Thanks for joining Waterside Wednesday. The Hurricane looked even more menacing on your bit of beach.

The beach is so great no matter what the weather has planned. Even just to sit inside. As long as you can hear the waves rolling in it doesn't matter.

What a wonderful post. Full of sun and surf. Love the pelicans. Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting on your Lake Michigan Dune Visits. I think you were at Warren Dunes in Michigan. That is a place where you could take dune buggy rides.

Jane, I just got your comments and I wanted to let you know that I did graduate from USF and I did make that shell pillow on the side. I make everything you see on my blog from seashells I find in Sanibel:) (also where I found the seashell cup)
Now I must also wish your sister luck in Mt. Dora. I have a friend with a little shop there in town called Delightful Occasions. It is a perfect little town and it needs a coastal shop!
