I Finally Saw Fall...

I finally saw my first fall leaves!!!

This past weekend we took a quick trip to Atlanta to visit G-ma Mac and to celebrate her 76th birthday at our favorite Italian restaurant, Ippolito's. All along the route from PH into Georgia, we saw hints of fall...and even a few trees filled with colored leaves. However, entering Atlanta, there was a riot of color in all directions! It was spectacular...at least to these Florida Cracker eyes. I was in heaven!!! (Yeah, I know...the peak was already over, but it was beautiful to me!) My family definitely was OVER my rhapsodizing about the leaves...

After a wonderful meal at Ipps, complete with birthday gifts and festivities, we headed southwest in preparation for our early morning departure for Auburn, AL... our ultimate destination. We were heading to the AU/Ole'Miss football game. What fun!!! Not only did my husband and I go on this trip, we took DB (Drummer Boy) and his wife, and WG (Wine Guy) and his girlfriend. DH and WG were especially excited to go back to their alma mater...memories and good friends were waiting. And so were the great shops. Between us, I think we girls gave the local economy a signigicant boost!

Thankfully, Auburn won the game and the girls had the chance to experience not only BIG SEC football, but rolling the trees at Toomer's Corner (an Auburn tradition!). Spending time with old friends from college days and their families...and eating fabulous tailgating foods... was the icing on the proverbial cake. A great time was had by all...

Our trip home was tiring, but we thoroughly enjoyed our traditional stop at Mark's Melon Patch...or as it's known in the fall, "Mark's Pumpkin Patch". This was Catherine's first experience in a pumpkin patch! What fun!!! As always, there were pumpkins all around...and gourds...and cotton...and peanuts...and all sorts of goodies. We stuffed our bags with pecans, pecan brittle, pralines, Vidalia Onion salad dressing, peach butter...and so much more. And we ate HOT FRIED APPLE PIES!!! These are divine!!!
These zinnias were part of the rainbow of colors found in a patch of zinnias...next to the pumpkins...which were next to the sunflowers...which were next to the corn...which was bordered with cotton...

(left to right...WG, Julie, DH, Catherine, DB)

This was the first time we had all traveled together...and it was a successful trip. The only missing part was that our middle son couldn't join us. Well, we'll just have to do this again next year...

Be sure to stop by Susan's to see all the beautiful Outdoor Wednesday posts;

Glad you got to see your leaves. I'm surrounded by them and I'm still in awe of them every year. SO I can imagine your excitement if you don't get a chance to see them very often!! Hope you have a great Outdoor Wednesday and have a wonderful week: ) Sherri

Looks like a fun fall trip, and War Eagle, girl! Some of my family went to Ole Miss, but yours truly (and my cousin) went to Auburn for part of my college years! Would love to have gone to this game!

Happy OW...

Isn't it so funny how us southern gals just oooh and ahhhhh over changing leaves?? Maybe it's because most yrs our trees go from green to brown with nothing in between. So a good autumn with actual color change is always like a painting and a gift from above to me!!
Oh......and sorry about us (LSU)getting the win from Auburn a few weeks ago.....(kinda!!)
College ball.....gotta love it!!

What a delightful weekend you had! I know how enjoyable it is to be able to do fun things as a group with our adult children. I was going to ask what "rolling the tees" meant until I emlarged the photo...lol!! Glad your favorite team won!

Looks like a great trip and your pics were fantastic. My daughter played in the SEC for UK several years ago. I always loved my trips out that way. Enjoy your day.

Sounds like a wonderful trip! Baby brother is an Auburn alumn. I did not know about "rolling the trees", but now that I see it I can promise you that this is one tradition he came to Auburn well prepared for lol! Loved the shot of the trees and the butterfly picture. Kathy
